Before any removal is planned, your provider reads the spot itself: its color, how its border holds, its size, and whether it has changed since you first noticed it. The great majority of moles turn out to be routine and come off the same day. The rare one that reads differently gets named to your face, and when a dermatologist should be the one handling it, we say exactly that instead of treating it here. If what you have is a soft, hanging flap rather than a mole, skin tag removal is its own faster visit and starts from the same exam.
Warts carry a toolkit of their own. Cryotherapy, a controlled freeze, does most of the work, and when a wart’s location or age asks for something else, another in-office method takes its place. A plantar wart buried in the sole of a foot is a different job than one on a knuckle, and we treat it that way. How many visits does wart removal usually take?
Some warts let go after a single freeze. Long-standing or plantar warts often need a short series of treatments spaced over weeks, which is how cryotherapy works rather than a sign it is failing. The AAD’s wart overview describes the same repeat-session pattern. Your provider tells you at the first visit what course yours is likely to need.
Will removing a mole or wart leave a scar?
Any removal that goes through skin can leave a mark, and the technique is chosen to keep that mark as small as the growth allows; an older mark that has long since settled belongs with CO2 laser resurfacing rather than a removal visit. What matters just as much is how your skin heals. If past cuts or piercings have left you with raised scars, say so at the consult, because keloid-prone skin changes how we plan a removal site.
