Tampa Liposuction Consultations

In your consultation with Dr. Arviv, you will meet with her to discuss your cosmetic goals and determine if liposuction is the best approach to meet your needs. You can help Dr. Arviv by doing a bit of preparation before your consultation so she can make sure you get all of your questions answered. Here are a few steps you can take to make sure your consultation goes smoothly:

  • Make a list of any questions or concerns you have about the procedure prior to your appointment.
  • Bring a list of any known allergies, as well as a list of medications or dietary supplements you take or have taken in the past.

At your Tampa liposuction consultation, Dr. Arviv will examine your skin in the area you want to be treated and perform a full physical examination. You will discuss your medical history, including previous surgeries and present/past health problems.

What to Expect From Your Liposuction Procedure in Tampa

Before & During Your Liposuction Procedure

An anesthetic solution with saline will soften the fat deposits, making them easier to extract for ur Tampa physicians. This solution, which contains epinephrine and lidocaine, will decrease localized bleeding in the area and minimize pain, swelling and bruising in post-op. Depending on how many areas are being treated, small incisions in the skin are made which allow a small cannula to enter the fat layer of your skin. With a back and forth movement through the incision, the cannula which is attached to a suction device is used to remove the fat.

After Your Liposuction Procedure

Once the procedure is completed, the incision will be covered and a compression garment that is elastic is put on, which is designed to assist and support the treated area during healing, reduce swelling bruising and other complications such as fluid shifting. Most procedures are between two to four hours in length. After the procedure, you’ll remain in our office for about 30 minutes to one hour and undergo a final post-op evaluation before going home.

If you think liposuction might be right for you, schedule a consultation with our Tampa physicians.

Fat Transfer Procedure

Like the name implies, during a fat transfer procedure in Tampa, fat is taken from one area of your body such as the neck or abdomen and moved to the treatment area. If you want to replace volume particularly around the face, liposuction is done first to extract fat. That is removed into a sterile container and treated with antibiotics. It is then placed in the face where volume has been lost using a small cannula. This procedure is simple, and does not require large amount of fat to be removed.

How a Fat Transfer Procedure Works

Fat transfer can be used in place of dermal fillers to fill in lines and wrinkles, for a more lasting result that saves money over time.  Fat for transplantation is obtained either from abdominal or neck areas. In the abdomen, a tiny ½” incision is made in the belly button (umbilicus) so the cannula (tube with suction) can be inserted without a trace. Fat obtained from the neck requires tiny (about ½”) incisions immediately behind each ear lobe and a third incision tucked up under the chin. These incisions heal very well with minimal if any residual scaring.

What to Expect from a Fat Transfer

Approximately 50 – 60% of the fat will be reabsorbed. As with everything in medicine, there are trade-offs to consider. Many patients prefer fat transplantation because tissue from the patient’s own body is used to make the requested improvements. Second, fat transplantation is commonly performed with some adjustments for over-correction at the time of surgery to compensate for part of the reabsorption. Also, fat for transplantation is most often readily available without an additional incision or expense.

Tampa Liposuction Recovery

After your Tampa liposuction procedure, the local anesthetic injected into the fatty tissue lasts for about 24 hours. This greatly minimizes post-operative pain. Once this wears off, most patients experience some discomfort that is usually managed with Tylenol.

Most patients are alert and able to function without nausea or grogginess. Walking is encouraged immediately after the procedure to enhance healing. You may resume exercise three to seven days after the procedure. If your job does not involve heavy physical labor, you can usually return to work within a few days.

Swelling is common, but will normally subside in four to seven days. After one to two weeks, results can be seen, but some patients won’t see improvement until three to six months. This will all depend on how your body heals.

Liposuction Risks and Problems

Like all surgery, tumescent liposuction carries both benefits and risks. Complications are rare and typically minor. The most common include skin irregularity, lumpiness, dimpling, loose skin, numbness, infections and scarring. If these do occur, in most cases they can be easily corrected.
