PDO Threading in Tampa

Are you looking for a solution to sagging skin? You don’t have to undergo surgery to tighten up problem areas and look younger; PDO threading can combat aging without the risk of going under.

At Arviv Medical Aesthetics, we offer PDO threading as a non-invasive solution to lifting the skin in the face without doing a facelift. With this innovative procedure, you can appear younger and feel more confident with minimal recovery time.

What is PDO Threading?

Surgical facelifts necessitate removing skin to give the face a tighter appearance. PDO threading, on the other hand, doesn’t require any cutting or removal of skin. Instead, sutures are inserted beneath the skin and used to create a lift. This procedure has minimal downtime and takes a little as 30-45 minutes. The threads are placed strategically in the face to provide the maximum lift but still leaving a natural look.

When can I place threads?

Threads can be placed in the forehead to lift the brows and also in the temple area to pull the skin and give the “foxy eyes” look. We used threads in the cheeks to soften the smile lines especially when patients don’t want to put filler in the area. We can use it in the lower face to lift and contour the jawline. A thread lift can also be used in the neck but often required multiple threads and sometimes multiple sessions to get the best result. When it comes to the neck, depending on the severity of laxity in the skin, we may recommend combination treatments such as Ultherapy or laser skin tightening procedures to get the best results. Threads can be placed in the body as well, and although they don’t give the same results as the face, often a few sessions are required to see significant improvement.

Threads large or small?

Large threads are used for lifting the skin as described above, while small threads are thin hair-like threads that you can use to build volume or structural support anywhere. Many times small threads are used in the smile lines to build volume by stimulating collagen. In addition, these can be used in combination with large threads to give additional support to the skin in the face, neck, jawline, and even in the body. The skin above the knees is particularly popular for small threads, improves creepy skin, and gives skin more support.

 How long do they last?

Large and small threads are placed under the skin using local anesthesia, they begin to breakdown or dissolve after 6 months. Results last approximately 1 year.

The procedure is painless.

What to expect after the treatment?

After the treatment, some swelling is expected and is the greatest after 2-3 days then goes down. We will usually send the patient with a compression garment to minimize swelling. Swelling is usually mild but may be moderate in some areas such as the forehead. Bruising is rare but can happen. The threads are on a cannula so they are less likely to cause bruising. The area may be sore to touch and also sore with some facial expressions or movements. We ofter recommend not to do any lasers, dental work, or other procedures involving heat or stretch much of the area treated for 4 weeks. Even something as simple as flossing should be done with smaller mouth opening movements. Within 2-3 weeks patients can appreciate the full effect of the threads and see the final result.

They are hypodermic needles preloaded with a PDO Absorbable Suture.

  • It’s a synthetic absorbable surgical suture composed of polydioxanone. PDO sutures are used to perform cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery). It’s one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body.
  • Your skin fully absorbs it within 4 to 6 months & won’t leave you with any scar tissue.

  • In medical terms “Selective Inflammatory Response,” it is the principle behind a lot of the aesthetic procedures (such as Fractional Laser, Chemical Peels, and Microneedling). Our skin is very good at repairing itself, and by inserting NOVATHREADS we make it ‘heal’ itself by creating new collagen, naturally!

  • Yes, PDO is fully absorbable, but that doesn’t mean your skin won’t react to it. During the 4 to 6 months needed to fully absorb the PDO suture, your skin is also repairing itself around it.
  • It’s “controlled healing” happening underneath the skin!

The NovaThreads are needles that are pre-loaded with a PDO thread. Simply insert the whole needle in the interstitial tissue at subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin, & pull the needle out.
