Cellulite is incredibly common, especially among women – but that doesn’t mean you have to accept it if you don’t want to. And if you’re bothered by the appearance of cellulite on your thighs, abdomen, hips, or buttocks, you aren’t alone.
Although cellulite is a normal skin condition, a growing number of people are searching for cellulite removal methods. And thanks to advancements in medical aesthetics, there are more effective options for cellulite treatment than ever.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a cosmetic skin condition that causes a dimpled appearance on the surface of the skin.
The bumpy texture is a combination of expanding fat cells that bunch up underneath the skin and the fibrous connective cords, or bands, that connect the skin to the muscle. Fat cells push upwards against the skin, while the connective cords pull downwards simultaneously. Because of these opposing forces, the skin takes on an uneven, dimpled appearance.
Mild cellulite might only be visible if you pinch your skin or stand or sit in a certain position. More severe cellulite can create a constantly bumpy effect on the surface of the skin, resulting in the appearance of “peaks and valleys.”
What Causes Cellulite?
There is still much to learn about what causes cellulite, though we do have some idea of contributing factors.
Genetics is a key factor in determining skin structure, skin texture and body type. Other factors, such as hormone changes, weight, and muscle tone affect whether you have cellulite, though even very fit people can have it.
Women are much more likely to develop cellulite, and nearly all women will end up with some cellulite after puberty due to the natural fat distribution in a woman’s body. Typically, women carry more fat in their hips, thighs, and buttocks, also where cellulite commonly develops. As you age and your skin loses elasticity, you may also see an increase in cellulite.
Can You Get Rid of Cellulite?
Odds are you’ve tried at least one (if not more) way to get rid of cellulite. There are numerous creams, exercises, and massage techniques that promise to be solutions for cellulite. Many people believe that losing weight will help them get rid of cellulite. Unfortunately, most of these approaches have little to no effect on improving cellulite.
However, there are medically-proven cellulite treatments that can deliver effective results.
What is the Best Cellulite Treatment?
Here at Arviv Aesthetics, we offer a variety of treatments that help reduce the appearance of cellulite based on individual patient needs. For each of these treatments, it is recommended to schedule or anticipate 6-10 sessions for optimal results.
Endermologie
Endermologie is an FDA-cleared massage treatment that uses a patented roller system to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Endermologie stimulates dormant cells by using a patented roller and pulsation technologies. The rollers and suction system manually stimulate fat cells for deep tissue mobilization to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
It improves lymphatic circulation, tones the skin, and also contributes up to a 70% increase in the release of fat cells, also known as lipolysis. The roller movements help your skin by increasing elastin and type 1 collagen.
CoolSculpting
Cryolipolysis, also called CoolSculpting, is another effective cellulite treatment method. Using an innovative device, the fat beneath the skin is vacuum-suctioned to put the skin directly into contact with specialized cooling plates. Then, the fat is literally frozen, causing the cells to die and then be eliminated naturally.
CoolSculpting is non-invasive, so there is no downtime or major recovery needed. Usually, you’ll plan multiple treatments to achieve your desired results.
Laser lipolysis
Laser lipolysis is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat from fiber-optic lasers at various wavelengths to melt body fat. Also called “laser lipo,” the procedure requires absolutely no surgery.
For the procedure, one of our technicians will place pads equipped with laser diodes directly onto the skin. The laser energy penetrates down to the fat cells and creates tiny holes in their membranes. This causes the fat cells to release stored fatty acids, glycerol, and water into the body and then shrink, potentially resulting in lost inches.
The body then flushes out the expelled fat-cell contents via the lymphatic system or burns them for energy. The added benefit of laser lipolysis is that it spurs the production of the protein collagen, making skin more taut and reducing signs of cellulite.
Ultrasonic Cavitation and RF Treatments
Ultrasonic Cavitation decreases the appearance of cellulite, especially when applied in conjunction with Radio Frequency (RF). Ultrasonic Cavitation works by breaking down stubborn fat tissues, which are then disposed of through the lymphatic and urinary systems.
An ultrasound transducer will be applied over the treatment site to penetrate deep into the tissue and break down fat cell membranes. This does not affect the nearby tissues such as skin, arteries and peripheral nerves. It is completely painless and free of harm.
The RF modality generates heat in the sub-dermis tissue, where cellulite is located, to stimulate the lymphatic system as well as cause immediate collagen contraction and regeneration, improving cellulite reduction, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
